In 2015, Catherine McKenna, was elected the first female Member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre and has earned a reputation of being a skilled negotiator and tenacious community builder. In her role as Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, she is working towards building a more resilient, cleaner, more prosperous country and creating a better future for our kids and grandkids. She is also an ardent promoter of innovation and investments in the clean tech sector. Minister McKenna previously worked as a lawyer in Canada and Indonesia and as a negotiator with the United Nations mission in East Timor.

Among others, the graduate physicist has held positions at the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW), the German Embassy in Stockholm and the European Parliament, the German Parliament and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

Jen Hiscock, BEng., MMSc.

Jen Hiscock leads the Smart Grid & Energy Storage portfolio for NRCan’s Office of Energy R&D. Her prior work with the CanmetENERGY research labs on smart grid development and the integration of renewable and distributed energy resources has given her a comprehensive understanding of smart grid technology development in Canada. With engineering and business degrees, Jen studies the dynamics of innovation surrounding the technology and policy development of smart grid and distributed energy resources. She collaborates with her provincial counterparts across the country and utility and industry partners to advance smart grid and distributed energy projects.

Dr. Mostafa Farrokhabadi
Senior Director of Technology, BluWave-ai

Dr. Mostafa Farrokhabadi is the technology and innovation leader at BluWave-ai. He serves as the Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and the Secretary of the IEEE Ottawa Section. He has (co)authored several high-impact papers, articles, and patents on intelligent control and optimization of renewable-penetrated grids and has an extensive track-record of design and implementation of smart grid solutions for industry, including Hatch and Canadian Solar. Dr. Farrokhabadi is the recipient of multiple prestigious awards and recognition, including Canada National Capital Region’s Forty Under 40.

Michael Tremblay
President and CEO, Invest Ottawa

Michael Tremblay joined Invest Ottawa as President and Chief Executive Officer in March of 2017. Mike’s mandate was later expanded to include Bayview Yards. Prior to joining Invest Ottawa, he was the Vice President of Public Sector for Microsoft Canada from April 2007. Mike has 34 years of sales, marketing, operations and general management experience, with considerable experience serving public sector clients.

Mr. Adel Al Tamimi brings over 20 years of in-depth experience in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Big Data & Analytics, IoT, Blockchain, 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR), Quantum Computing and Smart Cities Initiatives.

He is an active member in committees at the Dubai government, such as the Future Foresight, 10X initiative, Blockchain committee, Emerging Technology committee & Open Data initiative.

Mr. Al Tamimi has been awarded many prestigious prizes, including Big Innovation Award - Business Intelligence Group (2019), Tech Project of the Year Arabian Business Award (2019), Innovative Management Initiative (2018), Global Excellence Award - Outstanding IT Initiative (2018), and Hamdan bin Mohammed Program for Smart Government Award (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).
